Meet New Yorkers whose lives have been changed through the power of legal representation
Building a Safer, Freer Future
While every client who comes to Her Justice has a different story, they share something important in common — they’re working toward a better future for themselves and their families. With legal support, they can protect what matters most, begin to break cycles of abuse, and move forward with greater security and opportunity.
Our clients’ stories remind us what’s possible — for women, families, and our city.

We see the power of pro bono in action
MAY 2026
Michelle’s ex-husband coerced her into overstaying her visa, isolating her in an abusive relationship while pregnant. With the power of pro bono representation at her side, Michelle secured the immigration relief she needed to rebuild her life in New York City and reunite with her children in Jamaica.
“I became pregnant. That’s when the abuse starts. I’m scared. I’m hungry. And I said, “you know, that’s it,” and I went to Her Justice. That’s when my life changed. I’m a citizen of the United States because of Her Justice.”

Maria needed to take urgent steps forward for herself and her four-year-old daughter after separating from her physically abusive ex-partner. Her Justice stood with her as she asked for the child support she was rightfully owed, securing her both retroactive and current financial support.
Julie reconnected with a long-distance relationship after moving to the US from Peru, but once in person he became a physically, mentally, and emotionally abusive partner. Our pro bono teams helped her apply for a green card and developed a strong case for her application — even with systemic odds stacked against her. Today, she is happily remarried and hopes to sponsor both her husband and her mother.
